Connecting existing practice file storage to modern workflows
Most established practices have years of files in a structure the team knows well. Replacing that on day one is rarely the right first move — and rarely necessary.

Separate the file store from the workflow
Where a document lives and how work moves around it are different problems. Once document requests, review and status are handled in the workspace, the underlying store can stay where it is for now.
Connect what is already in place
Cloud storage such as SharePoint or OneDrive can be connected as a destination once an administrator authorises it. For files on a machine in the office, the LEDGEIN Practice Server connector allows approved folders to take part in workflows.
Keep access deliberate
Nominate specific folders rather than whole drives, and review that list when the practice reorganises. Narrow, explicit access is easier to reason about and easier to explain to a client asking how their records are handled.
- Approve only the folders that need to be reachable
- Keep connector credentials tied to a known device
- Rotate or revoke access when a machine is retired
Migrate later, if at all
Once workflows are stable, moving storage becomes a planned project rather than a prerequisite. Some practices migrate; others never need to.
